Our recycled felt bags begin as something else entirely. PET bottles collected after use. Recycled polyester fibres. Post-consumer plastic waste. These materials are cleaned, processed, and bonded under heat and pressure into a dense, structured felt that is soft to handle, durable in use, and eco-friendly by origin.
The Material
Recycled polyester felt is made from post-consumer materials — primarily recycled PET bottles and polyester fibres — bonded into a structured sheet without weaving or knitting. Like wool felt, it does not fray at cut edges and holds its shape without additional support. Unlike wool felt, it is wipe-clean and more resistant to moisture, which makes it particularly well suited to bags that need to work harder.
Why YACHT® Uses It
Every felt bag in our range gives existing materials a longer, more useful life. The recycled polyester felt we use meets the same structural standards as every other material in the YACHT® range — minimum 3mm thickness, clean cut edges, consistent density across the sheet. The eco-friendly origin does not ask anything of you except to use the bag.
It is also a practical choice. The wipe-clean surface handles the demands of daily use — a diaper bag, a gym tote, an outdoor carry bag — without requiring the same care as natural fibres. It performs under conditions where canvas and corduroy would need more attention.
How It Ages
Recycled polyester felt is stable over time. The surface does not pill significantly under normal use, and the structure holds without softening or distorting. It is a material that looks the same at year three as it did on the day it arrived — which, depending on how you think about bags, is exactly the point.
Care
Wipe clean with a damp cloth — the surface resists light moisture naturally. For deeper cleaning, spot clean with mild soap and cold water. Air dry flat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Avoid prolonged exposure to high heat.
